... THAT Blasco Ibanez PROPHESY THE DEFEAT OF GERMANY IN WORLD WAR?
Ferrer.
late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century there was a widespread belief in the West: there was a so-called Aryan race was superior to the others and that its greatest exponent, Germany, will end up taking over all of Europe or later early. Not a few writers-both inside and outside Germany, feared that country, who believed a superior people.
And no wonder. Since its birth in the late nineteenth, Germany soon became the most powerful nation in Europe. His wealth and prosperity, its heavy industry and high technology, its inventors and musicians and especially his bold military rulers and their fearsome amazed everyone and spread the belief that it was an invincible nation.
When World War I began in 1914 all were victorious in Germany. The rapid and relentless advance of his troops reminded the world that was only a matter of time that ended up conquering the entire continent. The once powerful France was being totally humiliated by the Germany army and nobody would have bet a penny on his victory.
Amidst this conflict, the Valencian writer Vicente Blasco Ibáñez published The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1916). This work, set during the First World War ended with the victory gala. Such commitment, in the 1916 was a very daring of a madman. Against all odds, France expired two years later. Germany surrendered and the Great War came to an end.
